Ask the experts: Part One - How to Rent a Tux

You have questions about formalwear. We get it. You don’t do this all the time. We’ve put together a few of our most frequently asked questions regarding the process of renting a suit or tuxedo from DuBois Formalwear.

Q: When should we choose our formalwear?

A: Most couples choose their formalwear after the bride has purchased her dress and selected the bridesmaid gown colors. The earlier you register, the more time your attendants have to order their tuxedos on time. Some people know what they want a year ahead of time, while others wait until a month or so before the wedding. The average is 3 to 4 months, and we recommend at least 8 weeks prior to your wedding or event, though we can provide rentals in much shorter time frames if needed.

FYI: Since men’s formalwear isn’t custom-fitted like bridesmaid dresses, it’s super easy to make changes if you change your mind!

Q: What information do you need to register our wedding party?

A: First, you need to decide what to wear. This is the most difficult part because there are so many options available. Our knowledgeable Sales Associates will offer their help to guide you through the process.

Next, you’ll ‘register’ your wedding with any DuBois retail location or an authorized dealer. When you register, you’ll be asked to list some basic information such as the wedding date, a list of attendants (groomsmen, ushers, fathers, etc.), and what you want everyone to wear.

Then, the attendants will need to be measured for their tuxedos or, if out of town, have their measurements taken at a formalwear location of their choice. It is a general practice in the industry that tuxedo outlets help each other by providing measurements at no charge.

FYI: We now offer contactless registration forms for you to complete prior to (or during) your appointment. You can open the form on your phone and fill out all the information needed except for the styles. And, if you are unable to be measured at a formalwear store, we have a helpful guide to take measurements at home!

Q: When will our suits be ready to pick up?

A: Suits are typically available to try on 2-4 days prior to your event date, depending on the time of year. During the busy prom and wedding season, we have to wait for some styles to be returned from the weekend prior. Then, we will clean and inspect the garment before sending it out for your wedding.

FYI: We will text or call as soon as your suit is delivered to our store. Though many tuxedos fit correctly the first time, please allow time to try it on in the store. This allows time for last-minute corrections or alterations. All suits must be paid in full before leaving the store.

Q: When do we have to return our suits?

A: Your suits should be returned to our store the next business day, usually Sunday - Monday, depending on our store hours. If you need more time, please let us know!

FYI: One person can return multiple suits. Please check all your pockets for your personal items and make sure everything is returned and in good condition. You will be billed for malicious, intentional damage to garments, but normal wear and tear is covered in your rental fee.
